If you have teenagers, you probably already know how difficult it can be to entertain them. They aren’t little children anymore, and let’s face it, they aren’t in the easiest part of their life.
Sure, there’s no rent to pay or bills to deal with, but being a teenager is something else entirely. It’s the time when they’re trying to figure out who they are, what they like, and what interests them.
Not to mention, their brains are changing and evolving into little adults.
As such, they might not be having a good time. Sometimes they need to be entertained somehow, even if it’s just to get their mind off their troubles.
Their problems might seem small to you, but think back to when you were a teen – the smallest thing felt like the end of the world. And you know what? That’s okay – let them have their feelings and figure it all out – just be there for them.
If you want to do something to help – trying to entertain them can be just the thing. That isn’t so easy, though, so if you need some ideas for entertaining teens, why not try some ideas on this list?
What Can You Do To Entertain A Teenager?
Remember that you know your kid best (or, at least, you think you do), so obviously not all of these ideas will suit your teen. It’s also important not to try and stick to stereotypical activities for boys or girls, or even non-binary folk.
If your son loves makeup and hates fishing, you should be there to support them and have fun with them, just like anyone else!
Watch Movies Together
Everyone loves movies, so there’s a 50/50 chance your teen would like to watch one with you! Depending on their interests or preferences, you might have to be willing to try something new. Harry Potter is a popular choice, though!
Play Video Games Together
If you’ve never made the effort to spend time with your teen by playing video games with them, you haven’t lived. Having a gaming session together is a great way to entertain them and have loads of fun – it’s a win win!
Play Board Games Together
Board games might feel old school, but some kids still love them. If you want to avoid a feud, though – stay away from Monopoly. Have a game of Scrabble or Trivial Pursuit, even Rummikub! They’re all super fun and chill.
Read A Book Together
If your teen loves books and reading, why not read a book together? It’s super chill and laid back, which is exactly what you want sometimes.
Go On A Hike
If you want to experience the great outdoors while also entertaining your teen, go for a hike! Find a stunning trail nearby, and enjoy your day.
Bear in mind the hike difficulty, though, because you might want to take it easy for it to be more entertaining than torture.
Go On A Road Trip
If you want to entertain your teen for an extended period of time, a road trip might be the best idea! Plan your trip and do something fun for a few days. There’s no telling where you will end up and what fun you can have together!
Do Some Painting
Is your teen interested in art? Why don’t you try doing some painting together, or creating a painting where you swap it every 10 minutes!
You can use watercolors, acrylics, or gouache to get stunning pieces of art! Avoid oil paints if you want the house to remain a stink-free space.
Build Something That Interests Them
This can be a LEGO piece, a robot, a mini building… anything! There are no rules or boundaries when it comes to building things – just make sure it isn’t too hazardous or explosive…
Go For A Drive And Get Fast Food
Sometimes all the entertainment you need is a nice drive around the city or countryside, followed by a MacDonald. It sounds easy because it is!
Go Bowling
Want to go retro again? Take your teen bowing, and see if you can get a perfect score. This will be super fun if they’ve never done it before!
Go Skating
Skating can be super fun, and a little hazardous. If you want to try something exciting, take your teen to the rink and show off your skills. It doesn’t matter if you fall, everyone falls.
Go Paintballing
Paintballing is a great way to entertain a teen that likes a rush of adrenaline. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s incredibly entertaining!
If you think your kid would be interested, plan a day and pummel each other with paintballs – it’ll be memorable, that’s for sure. You can also organize a day of paintballing for your teen and their friends if you’re too chicken!
Go To The Salon
It doesn’t matter who they are, everyone loves a trip to the salon. Get a mani pedi or your hair done together – it’ll be fun.
Go Fishing
If there’s a great fishing spot nearby, check it out! Fishing can be a little dull over long periods, so try and go somewhere that the fish will definitely bite!
Go Shopping
Shopping, retain therapy, whatever you want to call it, everyone enjoys it from time to time.
Play Sports
Sports are always fun, too! You can play a sport with your teen, or organize a day of sports to entertain them. Just ask them what, if anything, they like to play!
Learn A New Sport Together
If you both want to learn a new sport, why not do it together? It’ll be entertaining and make for some great memories, too.
Go To A Sports Game
Interested in basketball or baseball? Try and attend a sports game if your teen likes sports, too!
Go To The Movies
Is there a new movie that’s just come out? Get tickets for either yourself and your teen, or your teen and some friends! They will be grateful for it, and they will be entertained for a few hours. Perfect, right?
Take Them To A Theme Park
If you’ve got some time or money sitting around, visit a theme park! Rollercoasters and rides will definitely keep both your teen and the rest of the family entertained for a few hours!

Entertaining a teen isn’t always easy, but if you’re willing to take a step into their world, it can be a lot easier! Give their way of things a shot and try playing some video games or another thing they love.
They will probably be grateful for you trying to understand them a little more and spend time with them. As long as they’re entertained when they need to be, who cares, right?
